None of us are running the show
I spend my days in utter confusion
My instinctual drives I don’t know
What is destiny? What is fate?
Are these things superstitions?
Let’s gather and have the debate
I’ve always had my suspicions
I believe the subconscious deep within
Has more say than we like to believe
And many of our decisions hinge
On things we cannot perceive
Why the riddle?
When we get to the end,
Will the Divine face be revealed?
Or will there be another riddle
Inside of the inside joke
That’s life on this planet?
Let’s peer inside, let’s abide
To directives of love;
Maybe then, a light will shine
From above, and stop us
From digging the crater
That consumes great
Urban centers.
The Divine face is ugly,
We must admit,
To be free from illusion
When the only thing we
Hold onto is our delusions.
What comes after death?
Why of course, no one knows
When we take our last breath
Where do we all go?
We all ask this question
Religions are based upon it
There are a million suggestions
On the topic, we’re very split

Every so often, when things get really crazy, I like to think about Albert Camus. I turned to Camus’ writings a few years ago when my personal life fell off the rails. Yesterday, when Pro-Trump loyalists stormed the U.S. Capitol, I began to think of Camus again.
American politics right now are definitely absurd. People have been throwing around a lot of words to describe what’s going on: unprecedented, dark, nihilistic. Absurd is a good adjective, too.

why do I read this?
his words are dense, archaic
on a blue-light screen
they seem
pointless in today’s age
this sorrowful, skinny man
begs me from long ago
Continue reading “Kierkegaard (a poem)”“Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal.” – attributed to Albert Camus. Camus is one of my favorite writers and philosophers, and I agree with this quote wholeheartedly. I don’t try to be weird or different on purpose – I simply try to follow my heart.
