Continue readingHappy Halloween! Here’s a piece of darkly humorous flash fiction about an Amazon Echo and a widowed husband who has trouble moving on. It’s about 820 words and has an estimated reading time of 3 and a half minutes. Though it’s not technically a ghost story, I thought it had some elements making it good light fun for Halloween. Continue readingThe haunted mansion is my abode
Where I rest and relax with ghosts
Around here we have a code
To keep our friendly spirits close
The stairs creak and the walls crack
The ghosts run free in the house
But the ghosts never attack
And rarely do they shout
The black cat is a symbol of bad luck
Don’t let it pass you in the alleyway
If you see one, you are struck
With a future of despair and decay
I saw a black cat on Halloween night
The feline had yellow eyes like moons
I thought she was a very fearful sight
And I thought of impending doom
The witches chant their spells
And we wallow in our private hells
We listen to tolling church bells
We wonder what compels us
To circle around the cauldron
And obey sinister doctrines
Witchcraft is not always evil
But it is in my little village
Our laws are quite medieval
And we have revoked privileges
Of the saints in the town square
