Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays, but it’s going to look a little bit different this year. Like many, we’ve decided to not do an in-person meal with my family, opting instead to exchange food with my mom.

Saying Grace (a poem)
We say grace before meals, give thanks to God
for food in the fridge + what’s set before us
knowing not everyone is as fortunate +
there are some, right here in this city,
who are starving + scraping by –
God, thank you for our daily bread +
nourish those not at our table.

Adjusting to the ‘New Normal’
Here we are, nearly four months into the pandemic. The whole thing has been a very strange experience, for all us. It’s been a shared experience across the planet, though some countries have managed it better than others. I’m learning that the ability to adapt is so important.

I’m taking small steps back into the work world again and it feels good. My goal is to “make it” as a freelance writer. The way I go about this will make a big difference. Will I revert to my instant-gratification mindset, thinking I can make it happen overnight? Or will I take the recovery approach and take it one day at a time?
