The Things that God Allows (a poem)

Religion is a system of cruelty
And the priests are the executioners
The church can no longer fool me
Of the terrible abuse that occurs

Let’s go beyond good and evil
Into the gray mist of the unknown
Leaving behind the crosses and medieval morality
That have provided comfort for so long

This priest towers over me; a blazing fury in his eyes
He foams at the mouth and tells me
He’s the Devil in disguise

Trust me, I do believe him – in the darkness of the confessional
His tales of deceit are utterly credible
And his wizened face is ancient and contemptible

Red Eyes (a poem)

Cemeteries only frighten me in daytime
When gravediggers drop fresh corpses
Below the dirt, with the worms

The gravediggers are you and I

Indifferent Universe (a poem)

The sun and stars die

Riots in the cities – the first thing to burn
Is the gothic cathedral downtown,

The Gates of Hell (graphic art)

Photo originally taken in Philadelphia in 2021.

Originally, this was a photo of the door to an abandoned house in my Philly neighborhood (I shared the photo here). When I distorted the photo with effects on Canva, it ended up looking like the gates of hell. I like how the yellowish-orange color makes it look like flames. Working on this one reminded me of a horror movie Rachel and I watched recently called As Above, So Below (which I highly recommend checking out). During the movie, there’s a reference to Dante’s Inferno and the inscription at the gate of hell: “abandon all hope ye who enter here.”

Biblical Battle at the Foot Locker (a poem)

i’ve fasted for forty days

only bread & water

to prove my virtuous ways

this is the fast-track to heaven

i’m hollow in fun-house mirrors
