Everlasting Rest (a poem)

The freeway blurred, sounded like metal
Smothered the trail of this weary land
Sinking in sands and winter dreams
Felt the light shadow of my inner demons
Swallowed a bundle of pills, said good night
Looking earnestly at all the city lights
Welcoming an everlasting rest
Sparkling on some whispered night
