Take me to the river
Wash me in muddy water
It’s so cold that I shiver
Adopt me as your daughter
The river water heals me
Brings me closer to my personal Jesus
We sing songs in a minor key
The river water frees us
I was born in the river
And one day I’ll die here
My ancestors will outlive me
They grow younger every year
The river is a spiritual place
A place to ease my worries
It’s where I found God’s grace
Where I pray on my knees
Drown me in the river
Let my body float away
My life will be delivered
Let’s do it today
