Is nothing sacred anymore?
Or have we talked about this before?
I can’t remember
Tall shadows in the courtyard of my mind
Were designed to keep me confined
To the dust of civilization and its embers
Don’t act like you’ve never done it
The asylums where you commit
Your killing-spree benders
The sacred is heretical
Pure evil is angelical
And you are the worst offender
On the highway, everything is permitted
Without God, we are all restricted
There’s no way to surrender
Is nothing sacred anymore?
Has all the territory been explored?
Close your eyes while we get dismembered

Nick – I loved this. Could you say a bit about this stanza? It makes me curious:
All best,
David
Thanks, David! So this stanza was just a bit of wordplay. There is the famous quote in Brothers Karamazov from Ivan that “Without God, everything is permitted.” Basically, I just put it in the inverse. Plus, I recently took a long road trip driving America’s highways, I was definitely creeped out by some of the truck stops lol. Hope that it explains it, though it’s abstract, so I’m not quite sure the meaning, either. Could just be nonsense haha.
Thanks, Nick 🙂
