Can the Aliens See Me? (a haibun)

I shine a light in the midnight sky, a signal for extraterrestrials. Of course, my signal is crude – just a standard flashlight – but I’m hoping I catch their attention. This is, after all, the exact spot where I was abducted several years ago.

My light beams in sky
Can the aliens see me?
Hope to make contact

The air in the open field is cool, a bit chilly. I’ve been here all night, looking for those damn flying saucers. I packed granola bars in case I got hungry. I’m starting to think my search is futile as my flashlight runs out of batteries.

Come now! Speak, ET!
I’ve been waiting for so long
To see aliens

Author’s Note: Thanks for reading this silly poem! I used the image as a prompt and it made me think, for some reason, of a UFO fantatic searching the night sky for aliens.

Whenever I think of UFOs, I immediately think of The X-Files – one of my favorite TV shows of all-time. It also had one of the coolest theme songs, which I’ve shared below:

Thanks, Jennifer! X-Files was an amazing show. Watching re-runs in the middle of the night is awesome, too.

They play on Comet every night & I still watch them. Haha

Nice! One of these days I’m gonna re-watch the whole thing. It’s like the Twilight Zone, but better, because there’s a narrative throughout the whole thing.

    Aren’t they already here?
    I wonder…🙂

I think they are! According to the US government anyway … 😆

        Haha! Now, that’s a long story. 🙂
