Can the Aliens See Me? (a haibun)

I shine a light in the midnight sky, a signal for extraterrestrials. Of course, my signal is crude – just a standard flashlight – but I’m hoping I catch their attention. This is, after all, the exact spot where I was abducted several years ago.

My light beams in sky
Can the aliens see me?
Hope to make contact

The air in the open field is cool, a bit chilly. I’ve been here all night, looking for those damn flying saucers. I packed granola bars in case I got hungry. I’m starting to think my search is futile as my flashlight runs out of batteries.

Come now! Speak, ET!
I’ve been waiting for so long
To see aliens
