Self-Discovery (a poem)

use three words

to describe yourself –

I’ll go first:

“fiery”

“fickle”

“fabulous”

see, not so hard?

furiously, write this down

in wet notebooks

in cramped quarters

to discover your true self

hidden underneath layers

of loathing & lust

those sides of yourself

you only show to

the ones you love

“fiery,” like a phoenix

“fickle,” like the weather

“fabulous,” like the Fab 5

stay alive, young one

& don’t stress over

your shadow-self

embrace shadowed pasts

to reconcile the gulf

between worlds

& remember,

the subconscious

is never meant to

be unearthed

so, take a chill-pill

enjoy the long desert

roads leading to

self-discovery
