Alt-Psalm #2 (a poem)

Help, LORD, for the godly are no more

& we drown in mud

always wanting more

sex, drugs, rock ‘n roll

but, LORD, do you really care about this?

what’s wrong with a roll in the hay?

what’s wrong with being gay?

nothing at all, i suppose you’d say

O LORD, tell these televangelists

what your real message is

once and for all

so they stop preaching about

the fall of man

& stop being obsessed with

what we all do

in dark bedrooms

Author’s Note: The first line of this poem is from Psalm 12 from the New International Version of the Holy Bible. My idea was to use lines from the Psalms as poetry prompts to create “Alternative Psalms,” or Psalms applied to the 21st century.
