Meditating in the Mountains (a drawing)

Here’s a drawing from my sketchbook from about a year ago. I like how this one turned out! I have a small Buddha statue in my bedroom, which was the model for the drawing. I like how calm and serene the Buddha looks in this drawing, and I also like how the coloring turned out.

I’ve been practicing meditation in earnest for about five years. Prayer and meditation are strongly encouraged in 12-step recovery programs, and I feel like the practice has enhanced my life. For a few years, I was dedicated to meditation in the morning before I drove to work, and it definitely helped me start my day off right.

The snowy mountains in this drawing also remind me of a book I read last year called The Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen. The book is considered a nonfiction classic – it’s the account of Peter’s two-month journey in the Himalayas in search of the snow leopard. Though Peter’s journey with a naturalist friend was primarily to see wildlife, the book reads more like a spiritual journey. It was very interesting and I highly recommend it.

Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed the picture!
