Surrender (a poem)

You think God has left you, that perhaps

you’ve outgrown Him –

we all want to be gods now, in control of the things

that spin around us.

But look how fast they spin, the chaos of modernity –

you realize we need God more than ever

to let go of this tight grip and find silence amid the noise

and say His name, admit we don’t know

and never will

that there are mysteries that’ll always be hidden –

that’s a surrender that brings a moment of peace

even in a lifetime of sorrow.
